Economic Development

We are building it back. Take a drive through 1st Avenue and it’s no secret that we need to do something different. Our city and community leaders are working towards revitalizing our downtown district. Our district's central location offers businesses exceptional access to major markets, supported by a transportation network and a skilled workforce. Sectors such as manufacturing, food processing, biotechnology, and finance form the backbone of our local economy. We need to continue to stimulate innovation and support entrepreneurs. I've been an advocate for enhancing different start-up programs  and investing in new ideas that bring people to Cedar Rapids. Sustainable development practices and maintaining a high quality of life, we can position Cedar Rapids as a premier destination for businesses and families alike.

Workers' Rights

Every smart business person knows the key to a successful business is its employees. And so is the foundation of a thriving economy, a thriving community that is proud of the work they do and is treated with dignity and respect.

I am committed to advocating for fair wages, safe working conditions, and the right to organize. Recent legislative changes, such as Senate File 2411, have overhauled Iowa's workforce development framework, affecting various employment programs. It's imperative that we ensure these changes benefit workers and do not undermine their rights. Additionally, with the state's minimum wage remaining at $7.25 per hour since 2008, it's time to push for an increase that reflects the current cost of living.

Healthcare and Addressing Cancer Rates in Iowa

Iowa faces a health crisis, with the size of our population, the fact that we are NUMBER TWO in the nation with the highest cancer rates is insane. In 2025, an estimated 21,200 Iowans will be diagnosed with cancer, a 0.7% increase from the previous year. We need legislation that protects us from cancer causing environmental factors, like Ag runoff.  Iowa also struggles with access to early detection and care. I am dedicated to expanding healthcare access, promoting preventive care, and stopping the chemical poison from pesticides being added to our food, water, and air.

Democratic Strategy to Reclaim Iowa

I’m not a politician. I’m a fighter. The recent political landscape has seen Iowa shifting towards Republican dominance, with Democrats facing challenges in mid-sized cities and rural areas. Most people agree that the government isn’t supposed to feel like two sports teams, it’s meant to be a good steward for its people, both today and tomorrow.  We need a strategy that reaches across the aisle, through the streets, and into our fields. We need to provide clear, concise communication on all platforms to educate and motivate our communities.  By focusing on local issues, engaging in active listening, and presenting clear, actionable solutions, we can rebuild trust and demonstrate that Democratic policies are aligned with the values and needs of Iowans.

Together, we can build a future that reflects the values and aspirations of all residents in District 78.
